Review: Twelve (Newtown)

This is one of those restaurants that have “been there forever” but somehow I’ve never bothered visiting. We were looking for a lunch destination on a Sunday afternoon and our chef/restaurateur friend suggested Twelve.

Specials blackboard

The specials blackboard is massive and fulfils its role to catch your attention. Read: most of us ordered specials. Alvaro and I shared the fish of the day, which was meant to be a macadamia crusted barramundi fillet with sautéed mushroom and mash potato, but because the crust and the mash were not gluten-free we got it naked and with salad instead. Nice dish.

Our second shared plate was the chargrilled octopus with chilli, kipfler potato, lemon & olives. The octopus was a bit chewy but the flavours were nice and delicate.

Other dishes ordered were the homemade pumpkin gnocchi, pan fried with asparagus, peas, zucchini & Parmesan, and the beef burger.

The cakes display and blackboard are equally tempting. Servings are massive but I’m not sure if they’re great value. Alvaro called it quits after a few bites of his gluten-free Concorde cake.

  1. Have you tried the Spanish cafe ‘ExotiK’ also in Newtown? I’ve been there a few times and their starters are so delicious! ^_^ not to mention the whole vibe of the wall art and music really makes you feel as though you’re dining in Spain!
