Review: Jap’s Table (Darlington)

I’d walked past this Japanese restaurant countless times and read many good reviews until finally we gave it a go. Al and I were looking for brunch and he was not particularly excited about the cafes in the area. He wanted more meat.

Jap's Table

Jap’s Table offers the typical sushi, sashimi and donburis, but what I really wanted to try was their yakitori. The chicken skewers come in 4 varieties: breast, thigh, skin and heart. We ordered two of each.

Jap's Table: Chicken thighs, breast & skin

Thighs, breast, and skin yakitori ($2.80 each)

All the skewers were delicious. My favourites were the hearts and the thighs, the skin next and finally the breast. Just because it’s not as juicy as the other bits.

Jap's Table: Chicken hearts

Heart yakitori ($2.80 each)

We also had miso soup and a seaweed salad. Good soup, good big salad except for the vegetable oil in the dressing. I’d prefer a touch of sesame oil instead.

Jap's Table: Miso soup

It wasn’t a super filling meal but it was nice and service was very friendly. Will be back.

  1. Eaten there twice because we live about 100 metres away. Both times our orders got lost in the system, our food wasn’t delivered after 30 mins, and we had to prompt the waiters to find out what was going on. Lots of apologies from but twice in a row is not professional.

Then last time when we went to pay they didn’t have change yet take cash only (they don’t accept card)… I mean, really… how poor is the professionalism.

Quality of the food is good. Serving sizes are small.
