Review: Grill’d (Darling Harbour)

Al and I went to the movies a few weeks ago. That makes it twice this year! A record! Gold Class tickets were courtesy of my boss, and so we spent a little bit of money in drinks and chips at the theatre. We actually ordered sweet potato fries, but the girl who took our order at the bar entered regular potato fries (and charged us double! I did notice this and had to queue again for my refund). Oh, well.

We needed a post movie feed, and I was craving burgers (must have been the chips!). We walked to Darling Harbour to finally give Grill’d a shot. Since I read about their tendency towards healthy ingredients I’ve been trying to find the perfect excuse and it finally arrived.

I love the fact that they give you the chance of having your burger with no bun. I’ve read a story about a vegetarian girl who was charged extra for taking the burger out of her salad in a fast food chain. Insane.

The second thing I love about this place is that their beef is grass fed, which undoubtedly makes it more nutritious than grain fed meat. They also have kilojoule totals for most items on the menu, for people who like to keep track of their calorie intake.

We ordered a summer sunset beef burger, served with avocado, crispy trim bacon, golden pineapple, salad, relish & herbed mayo. Without bun, of course. The saucy components of the meal made a mess on the plate, but what a delicious mess it was. I don’t get why people prefer a Maccas over a burger this good… a burger that actually tastes like meat.

Our second shared dish was a Scotch fillet salad, with grilled 100% grass-fed scotch fillet, rocket, feta, Spanish onion, beetroot relish, olive oil & balsamic dressing. The description sounded great but we were disappointed by the meal. The salad was average (maybe due to a wrong ratio of rocket vs everything else), and the steak was just okay.

We also ordered a serve of regular chips with Grill’d herb mix. Great chips, much betters than the ones at the cinema.

  1. I’ve heard so many great things about Grill’d – I hear they have such fantastic burgers! So cool that you can order without the bun as well. Yay for Gold Class – I love it! So fancy .. although that’s a bit lame that they messed up your chip order!! :(

  2. When you told me you went to Grill’d I got interested and checked up the menu. The Summer Sunset burger that catched my eye! What a coincidence…I’m going there soon, I will let you know how it was but I’m sure it will be delicious…
